Welcome to slow and relaxed Salt Spring island. Some things you may notice. There are no traffic lights. A car horn may be heard once or twice a year (and it probably came from a visitor from off island). We are a warm and friendly folk. We talk at a more relaxed pace, talk longer, and talk deeper. Just buying groceries can take twice as long due to neighbourly conversation. We are polite and respectful, diverse and appreciative of all we have. We love nature and respect it and our small island population owns over 153 electric vehicles (is there a connection ???). If you take the time to observe and reflect, you may return home humming a slower tune.
Salt Spring does not have Wallmarts or big block stores. We do have a few villages, but many of our staple goods can come from local farms and shops that are located down short country lanes in green forest locations.
We have many things planned for your enjoyment for the weekend at the fairgrounds or elsewhere. Off the grounds please consider:
- a visit to the Saturday Market (http://www.saltspringtourism.com/the-saturday-market/)
- a tour of the art galleries in Ganges and around the ialand (http://www.saltspringtourism.com/galleries-2/)
- a Romantic picnic adventure (see separate event page)
- our self-directed Studio Tour of 26 hidden treasures (see separate event page)
COMMONLY OBSERVED BUMPER STICKER: Don't try to change Salt Spring Island, let Salt Spring Island change you.
